1 Ph.D. Scholarships are available now at The University of Sydney on Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide
Background
Prof. Yuan Chen at the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, The University of Sydney, Australia, is recruiting two PhD students for research projects sponsored by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide (GETCO2) (https://www.getco2.org/). GETCO2 is a new research Center funded by the Australian Research Council and seven leading Australian universities with multiple international university partners. The Ph.D. students will be based at the University of Sydney and work closely with a team of researchers in GETCO2 to gain an improved fundamental understanding of electrocatalysts and develop innovative processes to convert CO2 into useful chemicals. The two Ph.D. students will be co-supervised by Prof. Yuan Chen and another Chief Investigator in the GETCO2 (e.g., Prof. Chuan Zhao from UNSW or Prof. Jie Zhang from Monash University).
Benefits
GETCO2 and the University of Sydney co-fund the two PhD positions for up to 3.5 years. The stipend is A$40,109 p.a. (the University of Sydney RTP rate, tax-free if eligible), with tuition fees fully covered by the University of Sydney, subject to satisfactory academic performance. GETCO2 will also sponsor Ph.D. students to attend annual COE conferences and other domestic and international conferences.
Who’s eligible
- Be a domestic or international student.
- Hold a master’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or another relevant major.
- Have previous research experience in the electrochemical conversion of CO2 or closely related research areas, ideally have previously published first-author journal articles in the relevant field.
- Be willing to undertake research in the electrochemical conversion of CO2 under the supervision of Prof. Yuan Chen (https://yuanchenlab.org/)
- Meet the University of Sydney’s Ph.D. admission requirements to have an unconditional admission offer. (https://www.sydney.edu.au/courses/courses/pr/doctor-of-philosophy-engineering.html)
- Be able to start your Ph.D. at the University of Sydney no later than July/October 2024
Selection and application
- Send your application (including your CV, your publication list, a list of your relevant experiment or theoretical calculation skills, a 1-2 page short research plan on what you want to do in the electrochemical conversion of CO2 research area) to Prof. Yuan Chen (yuan.chen@sydney.edu.au)
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online or face-to-face interview session (if you are based in Sydney) from the middle of February until the end of March 2024.
- Successful candidates will be invited to submit the Ph.D. application to the University of Sydney admission office with all required supporting documents.
- Receive official admission and scholarship offers from the University of Sydney, obtain your student visa from the Australian government (for international students), and enroll at the University of Sydney on time.
